Maltese dogs are classified as some of the cutest puppies around (Boy Dog Names). Mostly famous for their snow-white silky hair, Maltese dogs are small in size, and are light weight (with an average of 3 kilograms for an adult).
Their name suggests that they originated from the Mediterranean island of Malta, though some researchers suggest that this might not be the real origin of this breed. They started their journey from the middle-east, being sold by nomads, and finally made their way to Europe.
The Maltese dog, and due to its outstanding cuteness, earned several classy nicknames such as "The Roman ladies' dog", "Comforter dog" and "Spaniel Gentle".
This breed is very energetic and as such could be noticed very active around the household, running and jumping around, shaking its tail and randomly barking for the fun of it.
They can be trained very easily as they are very fast learners, but it has been noticed that, despite their friendly nature and their classification as 'family dogs', they can get annoyed easily especially by young kids who usually like to tease their pets, and as such, keeping an eye on your kids is always recommended.
They do tend though to become more tolerant of small children as they (the Maltese Puppies) grow older and checkout some Dog Names and Pet Names at ListofPetNames.com
Maltese dogs, and despite their relatively small size, are usually known for their audacity and over confidence, whereby they wouldn't fear other big dogs or big animals they encounter. As such, try to limit the presence of hostile animals near them.
This breed needs a special care. Their long fur requires daily grooming in order to avoid hair balls. It is also quiet common to have their hair trimmed once or more per year, especially in hot seasons. Their fur is usually trimmed down to 2 to 3 centimeters in length.
It is also recommended to wash the Maltese dog's face on a daily basis in order to avoid the red stains under the eyes. A good diet that doesn't include food coloring is also recommended in that case.
Maltese dogs are usually known to cause less damage to allergic people than any other breeds. Some researchers even noticed that humans, who are usually allergic to dogs, may not be allergic to this breed at all. Though, it is recommended that you consult a veterinary before you acquire or approach one of them.
